Congratulations to Brenda Lidestri!

A recent Binghamton City School District newsletter announces that “Elementary Math Staff Developer Brenda Lidestri has been selected to participate in the 2011 Illuminations Writing Group and Summer Institute, a program of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Brenda was selected as one of just 12 teachers nationwide after submitting a video lesson and two other lesson plans.Participants will collaborate through a series of e-workshops to create lessons and videos that will be published in “Illuminations,” the NCTM’s website that provides resources such as lessons and activities for teaching math. By the end of the program, all participants will have completed two lessons and one video. The summer institute is a week-long residential program held at NCTM headquarters in Reston, VA. Building on the Illuminations Writing Group opportunities, participants will attend face-to-face professional development activities and prepare more resources for the Illuminations library. The group will collaborate to write a unit on a single math topic, and each participant will write an additional individual lesson. The unit of lessons along with the personal lesson will be published on Illuminations.
